WWW Wednesday #7

My week has not been great so far. I am currently at home in quarantine awaiting the results of a COVID test from one of my close contacts. If they test positive I will have to do the full quarantine and get myself tested as well. Besides, they are sort of literally breaking the apartment down around me (they are renovating the outside and this week of all weeks they are replacing windows. Timing’s great). So, my concentration has been lacking for the last couple of days. Let’s take a short look at what I did manage to read next week. WWW Wednesday is a bookish meme which is currently hosted by Taking On A World Of Books. Its idea is very simple, answer the three following questions:

This week the nine books I was reading last week, went down to a slightly more acceptable seven. I am enjoying Frankenstein so far, I am about halfway and it is a very atmospheric read. As a companion I am reading Mary, the adventure of Mary Shelley’s great, great, great, great, great granddaughter – a graphic novel I picked up from Netgalley. False Value is also still going strong, with all the AI talk it is also a very timely read.

Still managed to finish five books, although that was all when I was still on holidays. I spent the last three days finishing the last 20 minutes of Desdemona and the Deep, when my concentration entirely left me – the book is not to blame. The cover was so autumn-y that I thought it was a good idea to read it now.

I also read Drowned Country – I really enjoyed Silver in the Wood when I read it this summer, and this is the sequel that was recently published. It was also a very atmospheric read, and a nice duology that I enjoyed reading.

I finished Darius the Great is Not Okay, which was surprisingly touching, as well as Vol.6 of Lady Mechanika, a comics series that I have been enjoying for the past couple of years. Finally I finished listening to These Vengeful Hearts, and while it took some time for me to get into the listening aspect of the audiobook, once I was hooked I finished it quickly.

At this point I can’t really say much about this. I hope I will find my focus in the next couple of days and that I will also get some of my reading mojo back. But first *fingers crossed* for some negative tests.

How was your reading week? Read anything you would recommend? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Oh no, sounds like an incredibly tense week, but I hope the test results are negative and that can be a weight off your shoulders! At least you were able to read quite a few books over the last week. I recently bought Silver in the Wood because I couldn’t resist the cover (lol) and I’ve heard how it’s such an underrated gem! I’m looking forward to giving it a try 🙂

    1. Sorry for the late reply! It is still tense, my friend tested positive, so my own test is scheduled for today. Besides they did change the windows yesterday, so that added a lot of extra stress.

I can’t wait to hear what you’ll think of Silver in the Wood. I really enjoyed it, it is also very atmospheric!

  2. 🤞🏻 the test comes back negative! I also recently had a covid scare and had to miss clinic for a few days. It’s very stressful! I also learned how terrible the swabs are so hopefully you wont have to be tested 🤣. Frankenstein is one of my favorite classics, I agree it is very atmospheric. And the vocabulary in that book is great. I hope you enjoy Girl on a Train! I read that book before I really enjoyed thrillers and it introduced me to the genre.

    1. My friend unfortunately was positive, so I need to get tested today. Not looking forward to the swab, but at least I get to leave the house for a bit (have been in quarantine for a couple of days).

Didn’t get much reading done, but hope to read something in the weekend. I have not really been enjoying The Girl on the Train yet, I don’t like any of the characters so far.

      1. I hope it went all right – I know those tests aren’t always nice. But I really hope yours is negative. Take care and let us know?

      2. It went all right – it was a very efficient process, I was in, swapped, and out again in like 2 minutes. The swap itself wasn’t really nice though, but I was warned it wouldn’t be nice.

Results somewhere in the next 24h. 🤞
