Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

This collection of three short stories was my introduction to Chekhov, and it failed to really sway me. The writing was good, if a bit depressing, but the stories failed to grab my full attention. I have to admit that the shorter the story, the less likely I am to like it. It is too short to put in all the elements I like to see in a story.

I have since seen a Chekhov play, which I enjoyed a lot more – although even that was rather depressing.

The author

After a day of work, Marjolein likes to wind down with a book or two, or five! Unapologetic reader of at the very least three books at any given time, she apparently is unable to settle on a favorite genre.

She might pause her audiobook just long enough to discuss books online.
