Abandon

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Christmas Eve. A whole village disappears. 120 years later some people return to Abandon to find out what happened but they are not alone.

I thought the premise was really good. I was immediately interested to find out what happened to the village (and even more so how a complete village can disappear without a trace or a hint of what happened). Told in alternating timelines, switching between 1893 and now, some parts of the story were far more interesting than others. Weirdly enough, I’m tempted to call the middle part the most interesting, as I thought the beginning was quite slow.

The book felt like it was too long for the story it told. Near the end it started to get a bit repetitive (just how many bad guys and everything are there). However, it did entertain me, at least up until the very end where I thought the story got a bit out of hand. Overall, some mixed feelings although I still think Abandon’s mystery was an interesting one.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
