Or: how I failed at reading.
So, I had great expectations for Bout of Book #29 – you can revisit my enthusiasm at the start here. However, once the event started I immediately felt this was not going to be a great week for reading. It is so typical because this is what usually happens in a read-a-thon in my case. I read less, not more.
It was a very busy week at work. Not only did I end up in the lab 7/7, also during the day there were a lot of experiments to perform/organize/analyze, so I ended up feeling rather tired when I went home. Which isn’t the best mood for reading.
In the end, I only finished two books last week neither of which were on my TBR for the week. The Manga adaptation of Anne of Green Gables and Riot Baby, this months Tor.com ebook club read. Both were very nice reads.

I didn’t manage to finish any of the books I was already reading, although I made progress on Mrs. Dalloway, Djinn City and Breath of Salt. As a result, I didn’t start any of the books from the TBR either. I think I will spend the rest of the month trying to finish the books I am already reading, so that I can start September with a fresh TBR and the Halloween bingo.

Bout of Books featured some instagram challenges, but since I am not on Bookstagram I didn’t usually join, except for the Book Spine Poetry (which you can find here). That is a lot of fun to do, especially during quarantine, so make sure to give it a try yourself and let me know how it works out.
There was also ‘Reading in place’ which were 30 min reading sprints over on Twitter. However, the timings were rather bad for me, 4PM (still at work), 10PM (usually too tired – I joined once) and 4.30AM (asleep).
All in all, it might not have been what I had expected, especially I didn’t foresee it would be such a busy week in the lab. Nevertheless, I will join again next time and hope to finish more books that time around.
Did you join Bout of Books? How did it work out for you? – Let me know in the comments!
