Favorite Friday is a bookish meme which was started a couple of weeks ago over at The Midnight Book blog. Since the prompts posed interesting questions I’ve decided to join. Today’s question is about a favorite spot or time to read.

This is another difficult question because I have no definite answer to it. Usually I like to read while lying down on my couch or bed. There is at least one foot on the couch and I seldom sit properly on it, even when working or for example writing this post. I might change during a single reading session or stay at the same spot for hours on end. It all depends on my mood and how much I am enjoying my read.

For the time, I always – and I mean always – read before going to sleep. Even if it’s 2AM and I will only read a single page. When I am tired I usually don’t read as much in this time, and most of the actual reading takes place in the weekends, depending on the available time. I used to also read a lot on public transport but since corona this has almost come to a complete stand-still.

On a completely different note: I got a new houseplant today, and it has polkadots 🙂

What are your reading habits? – Please let me know in the comments!

  2. Your houseplant is so beautiful! I want one! 😉 I love reading before sleep and I don’t like to much light when I’m reading a book!

    1. Thank you! I really like it. There was a huge pop-up plant store in town and this one really stood out for me, with both the dots and the purple side of the leaves. It is a Begonia Maculata; or Polkadot plant. 😉

  3. Whenever I am not forced to “do things”, I am reading. On the couch, or in bed.

    1. I do sometimes fall asleep when reading in bed 😂
But I feel eBooks have made it much easier to read in bed, because you don’t need to keep the book open at all times. (and it saves your position for you if you fall asleep)

      1. Haha! You’re right. I, however, made it a point in my life that my bed’s purpose is solely for sleeping. 🙂

      2. That’s probably a very smart decision. I used to study in bed as well, I guess I am not really a person to sit at a desk 😅

  5. […] I just discussed yesterday in the latest Favorite Friday post, which you can find here. But a short re-cap, basically anywhere as long as it’s […]

  6. I tend to mostly read in the mornings before I get out of bed but if not then, I will always read at night when I get into bed. My day doesn’t feel complete without reading–even if it’s like you said only one page. I mostly read in my room (bed + chair) because I know people won’t disturb me and I won’t end up distracted by everything going on around me! Great post 🙂

    1. Thank you! Yes, sometimes I would open a book, and that would be the cue for people to start talking to me, and I then think : that is not why I just opened that book 😉

  8. I normally read in the armchair in the living room when I get home from work, unless it’s been a bad day and I go and cry in bed whilst eating chocolate instead! Also love reading in bed especially on a rainy weekend day!

    1. Reading is even better when it is raining outside and you know you won’t have to go outside 😍

After a day of work, Marjolein likes to wind down with a book or two, or five! Unapologetic reader of at the very least three books at any given time, she apparently is unable to settle on a favorite genre.

She might pause her audiobook just long enough to discuss books online.
